Edge finishes
Binding and border: two separate edges
What completes a rug is how its edge is finished. The edge is chosen separately from the size; the shape of the rug and your preference decide which one is used.
Binding and border are separate edge finishes
Binding is a slim finish made with a fabric strip and follows the shape exactly. A border is a single or double band along the edge and frames the rug. The two can also be used together on different edges of the same rug.

Binding
A slim finish made with a fabric strip. It follows the shape exactly; the edge line stays clean and fine.
Where it is preferred: On curved, round and organic cuts; on shapes with rounded corners.

Double border
Two bands with contrast between them. It strengthens the frame; on stairs it makes the edge of each step readable from a distance.
Where it is preferred: On straight-edged and angular shapes; where the boundary needs to be read, such as stairs and hallways.

The views were prepared with the edge and corner drawings of Design Together, using real Elly Premium Sisal texture and real border fabric. Base: Elly Premium Sisal · Panama · PANAMA-15-131. Colours in the views and photographs are examples only.
You choose the border colour
The border colour is set for each order according to the customer. It can be a tone that matches the rug or a contrasting colour. In the views, dark tones that contrast with the base were chosen as examples; in Design Together you can try your own colour.
Two finishes on one rug: the U-shaped rug
On U-shaped rugs, such as one around a bed, the two finishes can be used together: the inner edges can be binding and the outer edges a single or double border.
- Inner edges: binding
- Outer edges: single or double border
